Hiking Details: Choose Your Self Guided Hike

Of course, no hiking is required!  Chill out picnic area by the winery pond is open all day.

Please RSVP for hikes by email, respond to wine@windsoroaks.com

Vine Stroll:  EASY, not quite a hike, 0.25 miles, estimated time:  ½ hour

Led by Julie Lumgair, Windsor Oaks’ winemaker.  Departs at 10:30am

Other hiking times available with member of viticulture team.

Walk with Julie, our winemaker, into the oldest Cabernet vines on the Windsor Oaks’ Estate.  Sip on a refreshing taste of one of her favorite summer wines, while she explains qualities of the vines and grapes and answers your questions about winemaking and viticulture.

Blackbird Vineyard Trail:  MODERATE, loop trail, 1.25 miles, estimated time: 1 - 1 ½ hour

We suggest you beat the heat and start early for the moderate hike.  Hiking can start as early as 8:30am.

The hike begins amongst old Cabernet vines and ascends into the open meadows and oak groves of a secluded part of our “Forever Wild” open space.  Take a break at an overlook which offers expansive views of the Windsor Oaks’ Estate, Russian River Valley and the Coastal Mountain Range.  The trail descends past Blackbird Pond, through rows of Cabernet vines and ends at the winery. (convenient!)

Scenic Summit Trail: DIFFICULT, loop trail, 3 miles, estimated time: 2 - 2 ½ hour

We suggest you beat the heat and start early for the difficult hike.  Hiking can start as early as 8:30am.

Hike begins along the shore of the winery pond and ascends under the shade of oak and madrone trees to the upper Cabernet vineyard blocks.  The trail then winds through the mountain meadows of our “Forever Wild” Open Space where large oaks scattered in the landscape provide a shady place to rest before continuing the hike.  An optional spur trail climbs to the summit of the front mountain of the Mayacama Range. The summit offers a 260 degree view, which includes Mt. St. Helena to the east, Mt. Tam to the south.  The loop trail traverses across a ravine and along the hillside, offering magnificent, sweeping views of the Windsor Oaks’ Estate, the Russian River Valley and the Coastal Mountain Range.  Descending into the vineyards, the trail offers hikers the opportunity to walk amongst the Cabernet, Merlot, Viognier, and Grenache vines and ends at the cool, 55⁰, winery for your victory lap.
