Walk with Julie, our winemaker, into
the oldest Cabernet vines on the Windsor Oaks’ Estate.
Sip on a refreshing taste of one of her favorite summer
wines, while she explains qualities of the vines and grapes and
answers your questions about winemaking and viticulture.
Blackbird
Vineyard Trail:
MODERATE, loop
trail, 1.25 miles, estimated time: 1 - 1 ½ hour
We suggest you beat the heat and start
early for the moderate hike.
Hiking can start as early as 8:30am.
The hike begins amongst old Cabernet
vines and ascends into the open meadows and oak groves of a secluded
part of our “Forever Wild” open space.
Take a break at an overlook which offers expansive views of
the Windsor Oaks’ Estate, Russian River Valley and the Coastal
Mountain Range. The
trail descends past Blackbird Pond, through rows of Cabernet vines
and ends at the winery. (convenient!)
Scenic Summit Trail: DIFFICULT, loop trail, 3 miles, estimated time:
2 - 2 ½ hour
We suggest you beat the heat and start
early for the difficult hike.
Hiking can start as early as 8:30am.
Hike begins along the shore of the
winery pond and ascends under the shade of oak and madrone trees to
the upper Cabernet vineyard blocks.
The trail then winds through the mountain meadows of our
“Forever Wild” Open Space where large oaks scattered in the
landscape provide a shady place to rest before continuing the hike.
An optional spur trail climbs to the summit of the front
mountain of the Mayacama Range. The summit offers a 260 degree view,
which includes Mt. St. Helena to the east, Mt. Tam to the south.
The loop trail traverses across a ravine and along the
hillside, offering magnificent, sweeping views of the Windsor Oaks’
Estate, the Russian River Valley and the Coastal Mountain Range.
Descending into the vineyards, the trail offers hikers the
opportunity to walk amongst the Cabernet, Merlot, Viognier, and
Grenache vines and ends at the cool, 55⁰, winery for your victory
lap.
